Wood Pellet Stoves
In the recent years, many people have been looking for alternative ways to heat their homes. Many people would like to know that thy are being a little "greener", and helping the environment. A lot of people are sick of the uncertainty of gas prices, and are afraid of a combination of a harsh winter and high fuel bills. In addition, some people would like the previous two problems taken care of in something that is more efficient than their traditional heating systems.
Wood pellet stoves can take care of all three of these problems.
Wood pellet stoves are freestanding stoves that can be installed virtually anywhere in the house as a source of heat. They burn wood pellets, which are compressed pellets made out of sawdust and wood scrap. Since they are made out of wood, they burn a lot cleaner than gas, and are better for the environment.
Wood pellet stoves have a "hopper" that can usually hold up to 35 lbs. of pellets. As the stove calls for heat, an auger turns inside of it, feeding the pellets into the stove from the hopper. This is done automatically, and can even have a thermostat installed near it for easier operation. You can also install pellet inserts into your existing wood burning or gas fireplace. They come in a variety of different styles to satisfy any taste.
Since wood pellets are so highly compressed, they burn longer and more efficiently than gas or regular wood. A lot of people that have wood pellet stoves say they can burn a 40 lb. bag of pellets every 1 1/2 to 2 days. Presently, you can get high quality wood pellets delivered to your door for about $230. If you do the math, you can see that you can save some money month by month with wood pellet stoves.
On a larger scale, you can even go with a pellet furnace, which can be tied into your existing ductwork to heat your entire home. It can also be used to heat the water in your home. Pellet furnaces are basically a larger version of wood pellet stoves; the hopper can hold anywhere up to 350 lbs. of pellets. A wall mount thermostat can be installed, and when your pellet level runs low in the hopper, a red light will blink on it to let you know.
